The Great Christmas Bowl by Susan May Warren is a heartwarming story and an awesome little Christmas gift!
Backcover copy : Marianne Wallace loves the holidays. From dressing the tree to her traditional Christmas dinner, it’s all about creating memories for her family. But when her children begin to leave home–and their traditions–behind, she has one last chance to create a holiday they’ll never forget.
Unfortunately, she’s soon in over her head, and one impulsive decision leads to a string of events that will change the way her family–even her small Minnesota town–sees the Christmas season.
Me here. I love how Marianne grows spiritually throughout the whole book, yet that fact isn’t forced on the reader. It is a gentle growth for Marianne. But the reader can see the growth and spiritual fruit and how it affects her family and the town in which she lives.
Susan, as usual, does an awesome job at creating characters. The book takes place in winter and I simply froze each time I sat down to read the book! I kid you not. I had layers of blankets AND a heavy comforter over me each time I read it. Talk about feeling like I was there!
Susan came up with some unique lines. Here’s a few :
- . . . chasing her words with a smile I thought I would crack my face.
- My jovial, albeit short-lived, mood sputtered and finally nose-dived into the cold dirt as even Rachel’s children carved a wide-arc around me.
- Because we had miles of extra twinkle, I wove the lights in and out of the branches, wrapping them with sparkle.
I’ve proved it, Susan has a wonderful way with words. Now go out and get yourself a copy!
