- 1 3/4 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1/2 cup peanut butter
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 48 (or more) candy kisses
Combine all ingredients except candy in a large mixer bowl (I use a kitchenaid mixer). Mix on lowest speed of mixer until dough forms. Shape dough into balls (using a rounded teaspoon). Roll balls in sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 12 minutes (bottom is brown, top looks like it did when you put them in). Top each cookie immediately with a candy kiss; press down firmly so cookie cracks around the edge. Remove from cookie sheet when cool.
These cookies freeze well in a ziploc baggie. Thanks to my mom for the recipe.
Hi Heidi –
I popped over here from Facebook. I’m exploring your blog and enjoying it very much.
Ooo, love those cookies!
Blessings,
Susan 🙂
Thanks for looking! And you can heat them in the microwave for about 15 to 20 seconds – the kiss melts…..tastes just out of the oven warm and gooey!
