Kit Wilkinson, winner of the 2008 RWA Golden Heart for Best Inspirational Romance, is here with us today! Kit lives in Virginia and is a writer, speaker and stay-at-home mom.
Kit, thank you for taking the time to hang out with me today on my blog. I thoroughly enjoyed your debut novel Protector’s Honor and am honored to have you here today.
I’m going to start with a tough one. How do you plot your novels?
I usually write my first few chapters out very quickly and get a feel for my characters and where the story is going. Then I make a very vague outline and write a synopsis to make sure I can answer all the suspense elements of the story.
Editing. How much do you do? Do you have a list of do not’s that you follow?
So far, I spend more time editing than anything else. And I’m usually not line editing. I’m usually trying to add or remove something from the plot.
How in the world do you stay fit, run a household, keep up with two kids, have dinner on the table for your family every night AND write novels? Give aspiring novelists tips on how to juggle the family demands with the writing demands.
I have months when I write like crazy and don’t come up for air. When that happens, I get a lot of help at home 🙂 However, I’m trying to move away from that and write every day for at least 3-4 hours and not have it interrupt our home so much.
Time for fun. Say you were to be away from your husband and two kids for a year. No postal mail. No internet service. No telephone. No cell coverage. (I don’t mean to be mean, just a question!) What three things would you bring with you to remember them by and what three activities would you miss the most during your time away?
Yikes! That would be terrible. I can’t imagine life without my cell phone and Internet. I would really miss that! I would also miss time with my kids, of course. All the little hugs I get and reading a story to them each night. I think I would take my computer with lots of pictures of them including some video and recording of their voices.
What is the name of your next novel and when will it be released? What big release plans do you have?
My next novel is titled, Sabotage, and comes out in June 2010. I’m debating another launch party, but I will probably have it as a FB event this time. I’ll also do a blog tour and have lots of giveaways on my website! http://www.kitwilkinson.com/
Thank you for dropping by today Kit. I look forward to Sabotage in June!
Hi Heidi,
Thanks for the interview. I look forward to seeing you at Blue Ridge this year!
Kit,
Thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions – as silly as a few of them were 🙂
Yes, I’ll see you at Blue Ridge!! Heidi
