We started the trip on the Staten Island Ferry. The trip was free and we saw many NYC sights, including the Statue of Liberty. After checking into our hotel, we walked to the subway and traveled to American Girl, an awesome store if you have a little girl.
Then we took a carriage ride around central park (saw the location of the HOW DOES SHE KNOW scene from the movie Enchanted). I was amazed at how much green space there was in Central Park. Then we went to FAO Schwarz and toured the lobby of The Plaza Hotel—gorgeous architecture. We ended our day with dinner outside at a restaurant overlooking the Hudson River, beautiful.
The following day we saw the site of the World Trade Centers and toured a small museum set up to show the timeline of 9/11 with photos as well as a drawing of what the new World Trade Center site would be. Lunch was at Ellen’s Stardust Diner. The singing waiters and waitresses were a treat. I highly recommend this diner for anyone interested in a show while they have a meal. Our final destination was Mary Poppins.
This was an interesting trip because I saw firsthand how much green space there is in NYC—dog parks, soccer fields and play grounds. I also could not help but notice how nice everyone was—even people on the streets of New York. It was a fun and exhausting 28 hours!
