Suffering

Today we looked at Luke 2:21-24 in church. Our Pastor (welcome back Stephen!)  stated that here on His eighth day, Jesus began a lifetime of humiliation and suffering. His parents were not thought of highly–not after Mary was found with child before the marriage. That was the start of His suffering.

It is against this backdrop that we see Joseph and Mary on Jesus’ eighth day. They may not have wanted to feel publicly humiliated, but they desired to obey God. They desired it so much that they chose to go to travel to Jerusalem, not remain in Bethlehem, for the circumcision. The circumcision of their baby was a big event. They wanted to do it right. So they took the Lord of the Temple to the Temple of the Lord.

Do you have a passion for obeying God’s Word like Joseph and Mary? Do you ever say “I want to sit this one out” because if doing the right thing causes me to suffer, surely God will understand if I wiggle out of this one. Right? Okay, you should know the answer to that and your toes should be a bit bruised…..

Pastor Davey reminded us this morning to obey the will of God. Follow the Word of God in everything. Even if it may cause some personal suffering. Thank you for the reminder . . . ouch.
