“Put Off . . . Put On”

About a year ago I went to a women’s retreat entitled “The Richest Ladies in Town”. Thanks to Fayeson Tilley for leading us that weekend. Fayeson spoke from the Book of Ephesians.

Their Blessings (Eph 1-3) are God-given, Greatly-given and Graciously-given.

Their Beauty (Eph 4:1-5:17) is in their Features (can others see Jesus in me?), their Focus (our hope is that Jesus Christ is returning, so let go of the non-essentials) and their Fashion (what old garments do you need to throw away?). Let’s stay here for a moment. Faye broke “Their Fashion” down into “put off the old” and “put on the new”. Have you ever heard of that? For example, if you notice that you are impatient (1Cor 13:5 – who, me?!), try to put the impatience off by putting on the opposite–patience, or “not easily provoked” (prov 19:11). If you have worry or fear (Phil 4:6), try to put on prayer and trust (Phil 4:6, Prov 3:5). Check out the “put off . . . put on” list.

Their Business (Eph 5:17-6:9) in daily preparation (listen to God daily in His Word), divine perspective (Jesus is the model of submission) and decisive priority (obedience always brings blessings).

Their Battles (Eph 6:10-24) for their advantage (a Christian’s strength in battle is their relationship with Christ), their adversary (the greatest enemy in the world is not the one seen, but the one unseen) and their armor (walk in victory in the middle of challenging times).

To this day I still refer to the “put off . . . put on” list. It helps me and I hope it will help you!
